What does Shimmerdisc make?
A simple guide to our moving displays
You may have seen a shimmer wall at an event or in a shop window: rows of small sequins catching the light as they move. Shimmerdisc works with that same physical effect, using printed discs and architectural tiles to create bespoke displays, artworks and feature walls.
We make three different systems. Each suits a different type of project, from a branded exhibition backdrop to a detailed photographic artwork or a large architectural installation.
Here’s how they work, and how to choose between them.
First, what does kinetic mean?
Kinetic simply means moving.
Our displays use individual discs or tiles suspended from panels. Air movement allows them to shift gently, changing how the surface catches and reflects light. The image itself is physically printed onto the surface; it isn’t a digital animation or a video screen.
The size of those individual elements, their finish and the materials used all affect the appearance of the finished display.
Shimmer System for custom printed moving walls
Kinetic simply means moving.
Our displays use individual discs or tiles suspended from panels. Air movement allows them to shift gently, changing how the surface catches and reflects light. The image itself is physically printed onto the surface; it isn’t a digital animation or a video screen.
The size of those individual elements, their finish and the materials used all affect the appearance of the finished display.
The Shimmer System uses 34mm discs, available in round or square formats. It suits branded backdrops, retail displays, exhibitions, events and decorative features.
We can print colours, gradients, patterns, logos and imagery onto the discs, right down to individual elements of the design. A display might use a subtle blend of colours, a bold graphic or artwork across the whole surface.
There are two finish options:
- Mirrormet gives the display a metallic sheen and reflective depth.
- Crystara provides a clear, high-gloss finish for vivid colour and imagery.
Choose the Shimmer System when you want a custom kinetic wall with your own visual identity, rather than selecting only a standard stocked panel colour.
Kinetic Image Displays for photographs and detailed artwork

Our Kinetic Image Displays use 12mm round discs in the Crystara finish. Thousands of individually printed discs come together to form the picture. Their smaller size allows finer image detail than the larger 34mm format, while retaining the movement that makes the surface distinctive.
This system suits portraits, photography, artwork, detailed branding and feature displays in retail, hospitality and commercial interiors.
Think of it as a printed picture built from small moving elements. As they shift, light and reflections change across the artwork, giving it a different presence from a conventional flat print.t print.
Mowzaik for architectural moving walls

Mowzaik is our separate architectural kinetic tile system, designed for substantial feature walls, high-footfall environments and exterior façades.
Individually printed metal tiles are standard, with other materials and finishes available, including wood, tarnished metals and reverse-printed glass. The specification is selected to suit the location and the intended effect.
Mowzaik can carry artwork, branding or patterns, but the material itself can also become the focus. It is a route for architects, interior designers and installation specialists looking to introduce movement, texture and material character into a space.
t?What makes a bespoke display different?
A standard off-the-shelf shimmer wall usually begins with a choice of stocked panel colours. A bespoke project starts with what you want to create.
That could be a photograph, a particular colour blend, an intricate graphic or an architectural finish. We then consider which system, element size and material will suit it.
Customisation isn’t unique to Shimmerdisc. What matters when comparing options is how the design is reproduced, the finishes available, the scale of the discs or tiles and the demands of the installation.
You don’t need to choose the system yourself
If you have an image, a sketch or a space in mind, that is enough to start a conversation.
Send us what you’re considering, with a rough size and whether the display will be indoors or outside. We can help identify a suitable system and give you an initial price indication.
