For years, shimmer walls have been associated with sparkling event backdrops and decorative sequin panels. Their appeal is easy to understand. Movement catches the eye, reflections change with the light, and even the slightest airflow can bring an entire surface to life.

But what if those individual moving elements could do more than simply reflect colour?

For us at Shimmerdisc, that question became the starting point for something different.

When we founded Shimmerdisc in 2013, we brought years of experience in specialist printing and product development, along with a curiosity about how we could take the traditional shimmer wall further.

We began exploring how tiny individual discs could carry intricate patterns, colour blends and even photographic imagery, transforming a familiar decorative concept into something entirely new.

The result was an innovative kinetic image system, using thousands of miniature 9mm discs to create moving, high-definition images.

What began with photographic imagery has since evolved into a wider collection of kinetic display systems, opening up new possibilities for interior design, visual merchandising, branded environments and architectural installations.

When a Surface Comes to Life

There's something fascinating about movement that happens naturally.

Our original Kinetic Image Displays use miniature 9mm discs to create beautifully detailed moving imagery. Produced exclusively in our optically clear Crystara finish, the system combines the intricacy of high-definition printing with the subtle movement of individual elements.

Particularly suited to smaller, more intimate installations, these displays offer an intriguing way to introduce movement into photographic artwork, luxury interiors, reception spaces and bespoke point-of-sale displays.

Shimmer System — Creative Freedom on a Larger Scale

Building on the principles of kinetic display design, the Shimmer System introduces a versatile approach to larger-format installations.

Using 34mm discs, available in both round and square formats, the system offers extensive possibilities for colour, imagery and reflective effects.

Two specialist finishes expand the creative potential: Crystara, with its optically clear, high-definition character, and Mirrormet, bringing a rich metallic dimension to moving surfaces.

From expressive branded displays and retail installations to decorative features and experiential environments, the Shimmer System offers a contemporary interpretation of the traditional shimmer wall.

Mowzaik — Movement Meets Architecture

Taking kinetic design in an entirely different direction, Mowzaik introduces movement through individually mounted architectural tiles.

Designed for more demanding environments, its robust construction makes it suitable for applications ranging from high-footfall commercial interiors to large-scale exterior installations.

Individually printed metal tiles offer extensive design possibilities, while alternative materials and finishes — including wood, tarnished metals and reverse-printed glass - allow movement to become part of a broader architectural vision.
